Error Code P1747 is defined as Transmission Pressure Control Short Circuit. This refers to a problem in the operation of the EPC (electronic pressure control) circuit and how the EPC sensor operates.

This error code is a manufacturer-specific trouble code, meaning it does not apply to all vehicles makes. Rather, it applies only to specific vehicle makes, such as Dodge, Ford, etc. Specification on the definition, troubleshooting, and repairs still vary from one make and model to another.

Definition

Transmission solenoid failure code pertains to the EPC circuit. If this circuit fails, the vehicle will enter into ‘Limp Mode’ or harsh shifting.

Limp Mode is a safety system designed to protect the engine from being damaged during extremely hot temperatures. When this mode is engaged, the engine will run only at very slow RPM and barely able to move.

Common Symptoms

As with other error codes, this code activates the Check Engine light and registers the code to the vehicle’s system. Other symptoms include:

  • Harsh shifting
  • Hesitation
  • Stalling

How to Check

To check for this code, verify the code after the code is reset. Use a Digital Voltmeter (DVOM) and check the voltage that goes to the EPC solenoid.

Make sure you use the wiring diagram provided by the ATS so you can locate the EPC wires. After testing, verify whether the codes are working or getting proper voltage signal from the engine computer.

How to Fix

The easiest and straightforward way to solve this problem is to replace the EPC sensor. When replacing the sensor, make sure the wirings connected to it is not shorted. Check for signs of scuffed wirings that may cause inadequate insulation, as well as poor routing.

In many cases, a broken shorted wire is enough to cause failure in the EPC solenoid.

Also, during tests, make sure the trany is warmed enough since most shorted wires will only come out after the vehicle is running for some time, causing an intermittent flashing of the error code.

Also, make sure you check the integrity of the wires by tracing it from the transmission up to the right module using the wiring diagram.

Any DIY person can check and repair this code as long as he/she has the wiring diagram to do it.
